The Russia-Georgia conflict is giving Iran's oil revenues a boost. The conflict has forced British Petroleum to close a pipeline running from Azerbaijani, forcing Turkey to increase its imports from Iran. The step-up in gas imports was a topic of discussion in a meeting last weekend between Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. The two also discussed increased cooperation on other energy-related matters.  [Read More]

Hezbollah continues ambitiously to spread its influence beyond the Middle East. It has successfully penetrated pockets of Africa and South America. For example, in Venezuela and other South American countries it has been working to convert pockets of the indigenous pto Shiite Islam. A Venezuelan convert, Teodoro Rafael Darnott, also known as "Commander Teodoro," has said, "If the United States were to attack Iran, the only country ruled by God, we would counterattack in Latin America and even inside the United States itself. We have the means and we know how to go about it. We will sabotage the transportation of oil from Latin America to the U.S. You have been warned."  [Read More]

Andrew G. Bostom, author of The Legacy of Islamic Anti-Semitism, has called our attention to the recent murder of Iraqi Archbishop Paulos Farraj Rahho and the ongoing persecution of the Iraqi Christian population. Bostom refers to a somber piece in The New York Times detailing the kidnapping and murder of Archbishop Rahho, the leader of the Chaldean Catholics in the ancient city of Mosul. Archbishop Rahho was kidnapped by Al Qaeda gunmen on February 29 after publicly denouncing the protection money he had been forced to pay on behalf of the Christian community to shield its members from insurgent threats.   [Read More]
