By Hillel Fradkin
Posted: Monday, May 10, 2004

"Deciphering and Combating Radical Islamist Ideology," a conference jointly sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center and the Nixon Center, brought together an international group of academic experts and government officials to address the problem of global Islamist networks with radical violent ideologies within the context of the War on Terrorism. Held February 20-21 in Ankara, Turkey, and co-chaired by EPPC senior fellow Hillel Fradkin, the conference featured, among others, speakers Zeyno Baran of the Nixon Center; Rusen Cakir, a columnist for the Turkish newspaper Vatan; Madeleine Gruen of Columbia University; Rohan Gunaratna of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Husain Haqqani of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Zukhridin Husnitdinov, advisor to the president of Uzbekistan; Jean Francois Mayer of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland; Reuven Paz of the Herzliyah Center, Israel; Mateen Siddiqui of the Islamic Supreme Council of America; and Michael Whine of Community Security Trust, United Kingdom.

Radical-in-Chief

Read EPPC Senior Fellow Stanley Kurtz's remarkable new political biography of President Obama, Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism. The New York Times bestseller, which draws on never-before-seen evidence to reveal the carefully hidden tale of Barack Obama's political past, has already earned praise as "the most important political book of the year" and as "a meticulous work of political archeology, an excavation of Obama's radical roots and socialist affiliations."
