Encroaching Shariah Finance

The Gathering Storm, December 18, 2008

It is high time to be on the alert within our borders, as a recent federal lawsuit makes plain. This week the Center for Security Policy brought to my attention the lawsuit filed Monday against U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr. and the Federal Reserve Board in order to stop all bailout funds from going to American International Group, Inc. ("AIG"), which intentionally promotes Shariah-compliant businesses and insurance products.

"According to the lawsuit, the U.S. government, through its ownership of AIG, is not only violating the Constitution [the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment], but also promoting and financing the destruction of America using American tax dollars," read a press release from the Thomas More Law Center.

Just last week, Javelin Investment Management, a newly formed exchange-traded funds company, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the first U.S. ETF to be based on an Islamic index.
