About

What are the views of the American Muslim community about its role within American society? What are its views of the relationship between Islam and democracy? What unique experience and perspectives can American Muslims living within a democratic society offer to the diversity of views within the wider Muslim world?

These important questions have all come to the fore of our national discussion since the terrorist attacks of September 11. The purpose of the Project on Islam and American Democracy is to encourage and foster a new and honest discussion about Islam and American democracy within the American Muslim community and between American Muslims and their non-Muslim fellow citizens.

Dr. Hillel Fradkin is director of this project, and Eric Brown is the project research associate.
