In the past two years, the Catholic Studies Project has also provided the research base for two more books by George Weigel.
The Truth of Catholicism: Ten Controversies Explored is an explanation of the Catholic view of the world and the human condition for interested adults and college students. Published in hardback by HarperCollins in 2001, Truth appeared in a HarperPerennial paperback edition in 2002 and will remain available in that format for years to come. In addition to strong individual sales, the book has been adopted as course material in some Catholic colleges and as a mini-catechism in some parishes. Truth has also been used as a vocation-recruiting tool by dioceses and religious congregations. A Portuguese edition of The Truth of Catholicism was published in 2002. A special U.K. English edition appeared in early 2003, and the Polish edition will appear in mid-2003.
The Courage To Be Catholic: Crisis, Reform, and the Future of the Church was published in September 2002 by Basic Books and went into its eighth printing in January 2003. Made available by the publisher to every bishop in the United States, Courage helped shape the bishops’ debate at their November 2002 meeting; several bishops have made bulk purchases for distribution to their priests, deacons, and seminarians. Courage has also been widely read in the Vatican. A Spanish edition will appear in late 2003.
