PRESS RELEASES & NEWS
Publication Date: October 5, 2006

The Ethics and Public Policy Center is delighted to announce that Carter Snead, an internationally recognized expert in the field of law and bioethics, has affiliated with EPPC as a Fellow.  His specific areas of expertise include stem-cell research, human cloning, assisted reproduction, neuroscience, abortion, end-of-life matters, and research involving human subjects.

Professor Snead, who will continue in his capacity as an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame, formerly served as General Counsel to the President's Council on Bioethics.  From 2004-2005, he served as the chief negotiator and head of the United States delegation to UNESCO for the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights.

"Carter Snead makes EPPC's outstanding bioethics team even stronger," said EPPC President Ed Whelan.  "He's a great addition."

EPPC board member Robert P. George, who as a member of the President's Council on Bioethics worked closely with Professor Snead, hailed his appointment:  "Carter Snead combines expertise in the legal dimensions of bioethics with a mastery of the scientific facts.  He's a superb scholar."

The New Atlantis
A Journal of Technology and Society

The New Atlantis is an effort to clarify the nation's moral and political understanding of all areas of technology, with a special emphasis on bioethics. The quarterly journal is an attempt to make sense of the larger questions surrounding technology and human nature, and the practical questions of governing and regulating science— especially where the moral stakes are high and the political divides are deep.
