On the Record: Rick Santorum
On Islamofascism, Iraq, pro-life Democrats, and other issues
By Rick Santorum
Posted: Monday, October 30, 2006
I believe this war against Islamic fascism will only be successful with the triumph of modern Islam. If Islam does not engage in this struggle for its own religion, then this will be an intractable problem for a long, long time. And so I would suggest that it's important for us to support and foster modern Islam to be successful in this struggle against radical Islam. One of the ways to do that is to create a foundation for modern Islam to flourish.  [Read More]

Plugging In, Dropping Out
An Interview with Technoculture Critic Christine Rosen
By Christine Rosen
Posted: Wednesday, October 26, 2005
Christine Rosen, in an interview with the online magazine Godspy discusses how technologies such as cell phones, iPods, portable DVD players, and the like have allowed us to create little digital cocoons for ourselves. Coming to terms with the negative side-effects of these devices doesn't mean we have to stop using these technologies, she points out, rather it means becoming more self-conscious about their effects on others, and on ourselves.  [Read More]
Discovering the New Faithful
An Interview with EPPC Fellow Colleen Carroll Campbell
By Colleen Carroll Campbell
Posted: Monday, April 25, 2005
Nearly a quarter of young voters in the 2004 election cited moral values as their top concern in deciding who should be president – that's even higher than the national totals for that category. Many of the "new faithful" I know are concerned about a wide array of social and political issues, but they have a few "non-negotiables" that matter most. Chief among these are the life issues and social issues, including the protection of traditional marriage and the defense of the legitimate role of religion in the public square – issues that helped President Bush and other Republicans in the recent elections. But no political party should take these voters for granted: Nearly all of the new faithful I interviewed about politics said that their votes are cast out of loyalty to biblical morality and the teachings of their faith, not allegiance to party politics.  [Read More]
INTERVIEW: The Church Has Seen Attitude Shift Under John Paul II, Biographer Says
George Weigel considers how Pope John Paul II's legacy will shape the future of the Catholic Church
By Kate Schlegel
Posted: Thursday, February 24, 2005
"Cynics may find it hard to believe, but the first thing the cardinals will want to know about any possible candidate for pope it this: Is this a man of God -- a man of holiness and hope who communicates holiness and hope? Beyond that, and indeed because of that and the effects of John Paul II, I think the next conclave will likely be the most open in history."   [Read More]
INTERVIEW: Christine Rosen on National Public Radio
Christine Rosen of The New Atlantis discusses ways the remote control, TiVo and iPod have revolutionized consumers' habits
By Christine Rosen

"The New Atlantis bills itself as a journal of technology and society. On the masthead, it explains that the title comes from a fable written by Francis Bacon about not only the benefits of science and technology but the social, moral and political difficulties that may come with it. In the current issue, there's an essay with the headline: TiVo, iPod, and the Age of Egocasting. Its author is senior editor Christine Rosen, who's in the studio."  [Read More]

Sports World Rocked By Steroid Scandals
New Atlantis Editor Discusses Performance-Enhancing Drugs
By Eric Cohen
Posted: Tuesday, June 22, 2004
Steroid use in professional sports has the perverse consequence of making our athletes "less excellent and more dependent," according to New Atlantis editor Eric Cohen in this interview with Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty. "And so the people who want to be the best end up being less great than they really might be. They're actually more like animals than athletes."  [Read More]
Weigel on Just War Theory
EPPC Scholar Expounds on Role of U.N., and More
By George Weigel, Delia Gallagher
Posted: Friday, May 28, 2004
"What is the locus of moral authority in world politics at the beginning of the 21st century? Since the modern notion of state sovereignty emerged in the 17th century, the Catholic Church has cautioned, rightly, against absolutizing this idea. The 20th-century popes were strong advocates of international organizations, making clear at the same time that they were not supporting 'world government.'"
