Washington, D.C. -- Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, issued the following statement regarding a news report that the U.S. may escort Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Ground Zero during his visit to the United Nations next week:
"How soon we forget that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the man who, in October 2005, proclaimed: 'Is it possible for us to witness a world without America and Zionism? But you should know that this slogan and this goal are achievable, and certainly can be achieved.'
Under the podium where Ahmadinejad spoke was a poster of the planet Earth in an hourglass, with America and Israel falling and crashing into a void. Perhaps Mayor Bloomberg should think of this image before allowing such a tyrant to step foot on the hallowed ground where thousands perished on September 11, 2001."
